DIGITAL CAMERA OWNERS

Tips to remember when working with digital photos and equipment

1.     Always turn off your camera before removing the storage card.

2.     Be sure to charge your batteries the day before you go out to take pictures.

3.     When using Lithium-ion batteries, be sure to charge your spare batteries that have been in your camera bag.  They discharge when just sitting around.  Lithium-ion batteries can be recharged anytime with out worrying about battery memory loss.

4.     NEVER- yes NEVER delete you pictures in your camera. Experts agree that more often than not, a person deletes a “GOOD” picture by mistake.  Transfer your pictures to your computer, then, delete the pictures you don’t want to save.

5.     Make a backup copy of your pictures that are located on your computer to CDs, DVDs, or a separate hard drive.  If the pictures are important to you or your family be sure to make at least two backups of everything.

6.     DO NOT use CD-RWs for backing up.  This media is extremely non trustworthy.

7.     Gold CD-Rs, at the present time are the trustworthiest of all CD-Rs.  Verbatim Data Life Plus is an excellent brand of archival storage, however the gold CDs are best.

8.     When traveling by Air, the airport x-ray machines will not damage your storage cards or the photos that may be still on them.

9.     DO NOT reformat your storage card in your computer.  After transferring your pictures to your computer, make sure your photos are actually in the computer. Now put your storage card back into your camera and reformat it. This not only restores your storage card, it also erases it.  It is important to reformat your card periodically to keep unwanted files from accumulating.

10. If you live in Arizona- do not leave your camera in the car.   The LCD screens have been known to crack from the summer heat.

11. Now- go out and have fun!!
