Studio Workshop Wanderings

Workshops for this week

Note:  You do not have to sign up for these workshops.  Just drop in.
There are no fees and most workshops use Intermediate and Advanced
Adobe Photoshop CS or Elements.

All workshops are in the Camera Club Studio Classroom.

Intermediate Digital Photography Workshop

Thursday, March 1, 9:30  to 11:00
"Merging Pictures Together" presented by Al Crawford
You can take several images of landscapes or other scenes that overlap then "stitch" them together to form a single image.  This can be used to create panoramic images or it can be used to create more detail in your images.  Two programs that allow you to do this will be presented -- the first is Photomerge that is in Photoshop Elements and the other is Photostitch which is provided by Canon with its cameras.  And, if time permits, the Photomerge in the new Photoshop CS3 will be demonstrated.  While it is not yet in Elements the way Adobe works it may well make its way into the next version of Elements.

Time will be given at the end of the session for questions and answers.

Advanced Digital Photography Workshop

Thursday, March 1, 1:30 to 3:00
"Automation using Actions" presented by Al Crawford
Photoshop CS2  has the ability to record keystrokes and let the user play them back with a feature called actions.  This feature can be used to simplify the processing of images by automating commonly used procedures.  And actions can also be used to batch process a large number of images.  Both of these functions will be demonstrated.

Black & White Study Group

Friday, March 2, 9:30 to 11:00
"Ron Barry on Black and White Photography" a discussion lead by Ron Barry

Ron Barry is continuing his moderation of the Black and White Study group.  Go out and take pictures that you intend to be in black and white as you take the picture (instead of deciding after you take the picture that it might work in b&w.)

Also bring some of your black and white photos to share with the rest of the group.  This will help you and everyone else to improve on their photography.

Photography Magazines and Publications

The websites of  photo magazines are wonderful sources of  information even if you do not subscribe to the publication.  Most will publish online all or at least some of the articles that are in their print versions.  And many have excellent tutorials and hints on how to take better photos.  And, of course, all have reviews of products that we are interested in.  So check out these websites and enjoy.  The descriptions that are in italic come directly from the websites.  The rest were written by Al Crawford.
  1. Digital Photo Pro -- An excellent website for an excellent publication.  Many, but not all, of the articles that are in the print edition are also on the website.  In addition to current articles, by clicking on "Select Articles" you can gain access to many of the articles in previous issues.

  2. Pro Digital Imaging -- As photographers, we’re constantly on the lookout for the next big thing in cameras, software and accessories.
