Intermediate Digital Photography Workshop

Thursday, February 15, 9:30  to 11:00
"Histograms – A better way to take photos" presented by Howard Benedict

Many members look at their LCD following capture of an image, but is that the best way to see the quality and future possibilities of the photo you have just taken? Probably not! But most photographers see an occasional graph flip by on their SLR’s LCD or in editing and don’t really understand the advantages of taking and editing photos using a Histogram. This class will review many of the benefits of analyzing your photo’s quality by this new and better method.

Time will be given at the end of the session for questions and answers.

Advanced Digital Photography Workshop

Thursday, February 15, 1:30 to 3:00
"Workflow -- From Clicking the Shutter to Displaying the Image" presented by Al Crawford
There is more to photography than snapping the shutter. A look at the tools of digital photography and how to incorporate them into a systematic way of storing and processing your digital photographs. This will include looks at Adobe Lightroom, Camera Raw, Photoshop CS & Elements, Organizer, and file systems. It will help encourage you to formalize your own process of photo processing.

Black & White Study Group

Friday, February 16, 9:30 to 11:00
"Ron Barry on Black and White Photography" a discussion lead by Ron Barry

Ron Barry is back again to continue his leadership with the B&W Study group. Last week an article from Outdoor Photographer on "B&W In the Digital Age". It was distributed to members who attended last week. However, if you were not there the article can be found at Link to B&W In the Digital Age. Other articles from Outdoor Photographer can also be found on the same site. This article may be discussed this week as well as other topics.

Also bring some of your black and white photos to share with the rest of the group.  This will help you and everyone else to improve on their photography.

Outdoor Photographer's How Too section

Outdoor Photographer Magazine's website has a very good "How Too" section that talks about nature photography in general as well as articles on Photoshop. Check it out at Outdoor Photographer How To Link and enjoy. Some of my favorite articles are:
  1. Digital Darkroom Workflow
  2. Is Photoshop About Photography?
  3. Color Secrets
  4. Resizing Image Files
  5. Super-Saturated Digital

And there are many, many more from the archives of Outdoor Photographer.

Kodak's New Business Model

This was brought to our attention by long time Camera Club member Bill Popejoy. Kodak is embarking on a printer business model that is contrary to the "razors and blades" strategy of the other printer companies. I thought you might find this article from the WSJ to be interesting insight. Who knows, this may herald a new direction in the printer business. The Wall Street Journal has a good article on the fact that Kodak's new printers are being sold so that the ink costs about half as much as Canon & Epson. If you print quite a bit then these printers will save you quite a bit of money. And, possibly more important, it might cause other printer makers to bring down the cost of their inks.

The Wall Street article is found at Wall Street Article
You can find a description of the printers on the Kodak web site at Kodak Link
