Transporting to a New Time and Place
Getting Started
- Open the file
“Project 9 Tumacacori Window.jpg”.
- Move the
image to a 5” x 7” canvas.
- Make sure the
“undo history” and “Layers” windows are open.
- Retrieve your
finished image from project 8.
Move Bob to the Window.
- Note: You have two images open, Project 8 and
the new project
9. The “Undo History” window and
the “Layers” window will reflect only the active image.
- Make the
project 8 image active. You should
have two layers, the top one will be the un-blurred cutout of Bob. Make that layer active.
- Click on
“Select – Select All” (or ctrl A) then “Edit –
Copy” (or ctrl C).
- Make the
Tumacacori Window active. Then
“Edit – Paste” (or ctrl V). The top
layer – Bob’s cutout – has been copied to the window.
- Close Project

Change the size of Bob to fit the window
- Make the Bob
layer active
- In the tool
bar choose the move tool (top right) Make sure the “Show Bounding Box”
has been checked.
- Holding the
Shift key down, click on a corner of the Bob layer and expand to the point
his size will fit the window to look good.
- Position
Bob’s image by clicking in the middle of the Bob layer and moving it as
you like.
Put Bob behind the Window
- Turn off
Bob’s image by clicking on the eye on the Bob layer. Make sure that the window layer is
active.
- Select the
“Lasso Tool” then right click on the Lasso Tool and select “Polygonal
Lasso Tool”. Be sure Feather is set
to 0.
- Trace the
inside of the window using the polygonal lasso tool. You are finished when you get crawling
ants around the inside of the window.
- Make the
inside of the window its own layer in the main menu choose “Layer – New –
Copy via Cut”
- You now have
three layers. The Window layer
needs to be on top so it is completely visible. Bob needs to be in the middle and the
inside of the window needs to be in the background. You can rearrange the layers by dragging
them up and down as needed.
- You can have
Bob facing the other direction by making the Bob layer active then from
the main menu choosing “Image – Rotate – Flip Layer Horizontally”
- You can
change the size and position of Bob by making the Bob layer active then
using the Move tool.
- If there are
white lines along the edge of the window you may enlarge the inside of the
window and position it slightly to remove the lines.
Fill in the upper left hand corner
- Select the
Eyedropper Tool (two up from the bottom on the left)
- Click on the
blue sky inside the window. You
have now made the background color the color of the sky.
- Make the
Window layer active.
- Select the
“Paint Bucket Tool” (5 down from the top on the left). Make the tolerance 10 to 35.
- Click on the
white area on the upper left. All
of the white area in the upper left will be painted sky blue.
